Re: Name That Language!

I was going to guess Mazahua at first, but that's Oto-Manguean. Is it Mixe-Zoquean?

This is very cool! I find the differences between Spanish dialects fascinating. I like your writing, and I look forward to more posts on the subject.

Re: SAE phonology and grammar tests

[ˈsɪfn̩] or [sɪˈfɑn] for <siphon> (expected: [ˈsaɪfn̩]). My family had fun with that one.

Re: How did the number spelled "two" get its pronunciation?

From what I understand, it was originally /twɑː/, then raised to /twoː/ during the Great Vowel Shift, then further raised to /twuː/. w > ∅ / C_V[+round], see "who", "whore", "sword", but contrast "swoon", "swollen".

Re: Retransliterate Klingon!

Tibetan, which goes more with the Klingon Aesthetic. And I've only not done 'Phags-pa because I don't have a keyboard layout for it yet. The stacking is a little idiosyncratic—I went with "use the stack if it exists" instead of "keep initial consonants with their following vowels.&quo...

/f/ merging to /x/ happened in Dutch.

And a board favorite, Iau, has [x] as an allophone of /f/.

Re: Linguistic Miscellany Thread

As I have mentioned previously, my idiolect has marked palatalization of /t/ in quite a few words where GA lacks it, and I notice that at least my mother has this as well. (I can confirm she pronounces sister as [ˈsɘɕtɕʁ̩(ː)].) But one word in particular that sticks out which I notice myself having...
