Re: Name That Language!

Out of curiosity, what is <ᵘ̊> supposed to represent, if you know? I’m assuming it’s a superscript form of ⟨ů⟩. From what I’ve seen, superscript vowels usually represent vowels which are voiceless or dropped. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm curious what <ů> is too - I've only seen that in a Czech conte...

Re: Name That Language!

Aw thanks. Great detective work yourself with Lamaholot! To be honest, I just spend way too much time collecting grammars and comparative dictionaries/studies. Comparative lexica give me a lot of inspiration for diachronic conlanging and general aesthetics. It's incredible how much stuff is availabl...

Re: Name That Language!

Is this Ashéninka Perené? I got there by noticing it looked South American, using Saphon to find phonologies that matched the text, and then going on a deep dive through the Comparative Arawakan Lexical Dataset - the words for 'fruit' and 'woman', chochoki and kooya respectively, were very helpful. ...

Re: Name That Language!

Yes, it is from North America. Defining "Mesoamerican" as "spoken in Mexico/Central America" then yes, that is correct too! The original source doesn't specify I don't think, but I would suspect it's stress rather than tone just based on its distribution. The language is no longe...

Re: Name That Language!

Oops! I hope it's okay for me to google the text to check my answer if I've already arrived at it. If that's not allowed, I'll defer the confirmation to the person who posts the sample text next time.

Not Papuan or South American, though those are both honestly pretty good guesses aesthetic-wise.
