Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
Just want to chip in to say I appreciate the work that has gone into this, and the aesthetic is lovely to look at. Like Tangut, its density is very attractive, when combined with its unique aesthetic. However, I am glad it’s not my native script. I understand your rationale for going for complex ch...

https://medium.com/@changhillryan/the-challenge-is-over-e7419f4d6d34 The decipherment challenge has concluded, and the long-awaited answers to the Angloji ciphers are finally here. Even though a total of seven people have successfully cracked the email address in Post 2, no one was able to solve Pos...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
If Angloji arose IRL without influence from CJK then I'd expect writers to use some simple shapes, and those shapes might converge on CJK shapes (without having similar meaning). I agree. Developing a cursive system for Angloji, learning from how the cursive forms developed from Chinese characters,...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of the contents of most if not all Siniform scripts aren't copywritten. Specific combinations, such as in company names, might be legally protected - but thats true of what you'd find in any script's users. :) I think sequences of words or characters are not c...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
This is just my guess: either to... a. avoid repeated PMs to the tune of "but you can't make that be the sign for toothpaste, because its the sign for horse!" b. use it as a design challenge. Both reasons are true. It was also: - I wanted to avoid any potential copyright issues, in the sm...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
I will put my opinion in and say I think this is an interesting project! When it comes to board users, I think we like in-depth descriptions of people's projects, and to offer praise, critiques, alternatives etc. So, like others, I'd like to browse the character set, and see explanations of differe...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
New article Jukujikun words have long been a fascination of mine, particularly in their usage with names. The unpredictability of Japanese place names and surnames like Hase (長谷) or Shinonome (東雲) is endless, and there is always something new to learn. English names are no less multifarious from th...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
German words with Angloji: In any case, as much as I would love to learn every language that exists and create Angloji characters for every one of their words, I cannot realistically do so. As such, I must resort to providing options to either transliterate them or to write them like the previously ...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
The fact that it's a contest is mainly just weird, and not something we're used to seeing here. My experience here on the board is that folks TEND to appreciate an explanation of a script rather than just a "hey look at what I made, can you figure it out" kind of post. Fair enough. Perhap...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
I saw it as a fun way to drive engagement and attention to the project, for a not-too-large sum of money appropriate for solving an advanced brain teaser. In this day and age of social media and short attention spans, I felt it was kind of necessary. There is no bad faith involved here, certainly n...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
However...I am curious why folks aren't the least bit curious about someone offering $1000 do decipher a Hanzi-English code. Maybe I'm just getting suspicious in my old age, but it hardly seems like a good-faith entry into the world of conlanging. But, again, moving forward, I'll defer to Raphael's...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
Faux Hanzi. So avant garde. So daring and original. Seriously, though, seems like you put a lot of work into just recreating Hanzi. What's the new thing here? How is this new, or not derivative? The character designs are indeed derivative, and I meant them to be such, following most of the known co...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
I'm sorry...I have no idea what you just said. ‘Levenshtein distance’ is a metric for similarity between lists of symbols, in this case IPA symbols. I’m not convinced it’s the right tool to use for measuring phonetic similarity, though — e.g. with this metric /pæn/, /bæn/, /pɪn/ and /pæt/ are all c...

Re: Angloji - logographic English writing system
Thank you everyone. most impressive. may I ask how you chose which English phones to go with which signs? and how to craft the signs? The English sounds are chosen based on phonetic similarity, as determined most often by taking words' IPA notations doing Levenshtein distance calculation with them, ...

Angloji - logographic English writing system
Not sure if this is the right forum to post in, since I am working with English rather than a conlang, but here goes. I came across the Yingzi article many years ago, and I thought that creating a full-fledged system for English might be an interesting artistic project for me to take on. As such, I ...
