Re: Language Practice (Help your fluency)
Ā, I kitea ngā āhuatanga tini o te kupu reo Shilluk ‘acama’ i te rauemi a SIL, i pōhēhētia te reo Dinka. Ahakoa e mōhio tonu ana au kia rite te reo Dinka; he reo kupu kōmitimiti nui me te wetereo ‘Austronesian trigger’, nē? Ah, I saw the table of forms of the Shilluk ‘acama’ in the SIL resource and...

Re: Language Practice (Help your fluency)
Nō ēhea rauemi āu ako o te reo Dinka?
What resources are you using to learn Dinka?
He aha te tikanga o te kupu 'ɣɛn' e toru te whakaputanga i ia rerenga? Ko 'au', ko 'haere' rānei?
What does ɣɛn mean that shows up in all three sentences? Is it 'I' or 'go'?

Re: The Great Proto-Indo-European Thread's Sequel
This is why I think we'd need not just one, but several protolanguages for the IE family. Okay... and what are they? If you’re going to say the mainstream is wrong, then say why the mainstream is wrong. If you’re going to say there’s an alternative, then say what the alternative is . How many lexic...

Re: Language Practice (Help your fluency)
That's an impressive transformation of the original word! Haha, I’m not actually sure if that word is correct. Due...

この夏、サンスクリット語を勉強し始めている。 I've started learning Sanskrit this summer. Ki a au, he tino whēuaua te reo Hanahikiriti ! Kei te ako au i te reo Pāniora - he ngāwari atu te reo nei mō ngā tāngata e kōrero te reo Ingarihi. It seems to me that Sanskrit is a very difficult language. I'm learning Spanish, whic...

Re: The Great Proto-Indo-European Thread's Sequel
I can’t remember exactly, but I believe Kortland mentions in passing that he follows a similar theory except that the mobility of accent is the conditioning factor, due to the fact that mobile stems more often have breathy voiced consonants (apparently). Either I think there is at least some merit t...

Re: Posts from the old board
I managed to migrate the old board data to phpBB 3.3.0! It should be fine now to upload the files and now-migrated database to Dreamhost, as they should now work with the latest version of PHP. The only things that aren’t working are user avatars and attachments. Zompist, if you PM me I’ll send you...

Re: Posts from the old board
Wouldn't it just be easier at this point to dump the data into a new version of phpBB, rather than trying to re-engineer everything? Even just into this one as a read-only forum (assuming you can do that)? Or is there some major structural changes to phpBB that make this unfeasible?

He ʻōlelo pāʻani ʻo kitamu . He hoʻohawaiʻi ʻana o ka ʻōlelo haole "item" ʻo ʻikamu . ʻAʻohe huaʻōlelo pili ma ka ʻōlelo Māoli. Kitamu is a joke. ʻIkamu is a Hawaiʻianisation of the English word "item". There is no Māori cognate. I te mōhio au, ka tūmanako ki te kite i te māorit...

And I'm pretty much in the "objective case except solo adjoining a finite verb" camp. (This is why me and him's marriage will never work!) Oo, now that's a juicy one! I'm unsure between using "me and him's" and "mine and his". Mine and Bob's wedding - me and Bob's wedd...
