Re: Happy things thread!

Someone created a raycaster (think Wolfenstein 3D) using zeptoforth, my S15.16 math routines, and my 8-bit ST7789V graphics driver which runs on the Tufty 2040, and after a small bugfix (a number specified was out of the range of possible S15.16 numbers) it worked perfectly. I could walk around the...

May I ask which one?
You may, and if you do, the answer will be Reformation : Europe's House Divided 1490-1700, by Diarmaid MacCulloch.

Re: Help originating a vowel system?

As far as I recall, there was this general rule of thumb for a naturalistic vowel system: 1. Pick one of: /a i u~o/, /a e~ə i u/, /a e i o u/, /a ɛ i ɔ u/, /a ɛ e i ɔ o u/ 2. Make up to two changes. A change is one of the following: dropping a vowel, adding a vowel, substituting a vowel with anothe...

(Australia very sensibly uses day/month/year format. I’ve yet to comprehend why anyone would voluntarily use middle -endian order…) This raises the very important question: is the (obviously correct) day/month/year little- or big-endian? Little-endian, because the bit which changes the fastest come...

The profit motive is extremely useful as you say, but only up to a point — once you’ve exhausted all the ways to increase profit by improving your product, the only thing left is to increase profit by worsening your product. (This remains one of my favourite statements I’ve made on this forum.) It'...

Good: I have written the first three chapters of my attempted novel. Bad: As of now, I have no idea what I want to happen in the fourth chapter. Now I'm at the same point after Chapter 4. This is not unusual. Take some advice from a well-known author from the last century - whose name has sadly sli...

Popular culture in historical times

Dammit, this should have gone into the "Conlangery" forum. This is a good subject for making your conworlds seem more alive. Consider the following remark, which one might use to assert one's presumed sociocultural superiority over another: Why do you X Y? That is so lame! Anyone with any ...

Or it might be Cyrllic, except for the last letter, which might be an idiosyncratic variant of backwards-N.
