Re: Pronunciations you had to unlearn
Exactly. Note that intervocalically, both fortis and lenis affricates are unaspirated voiceless, but are distinguished by preceding vowel length. (This is only for affricates; lenis stops do voice intervocalically for me.) That's interesting, I've never heard of affricates being pronounced that way...

Re: Pronunciations you had to unlearn
Likewise I pronounce it [ˈtʃɘ̃ːmnɘsʲtʲ]. With a voiceless affricate? Does that mean that you'd pronounce words like "change" and "child" with a voiceless aspirated affricate? Exactly. Note that intervocalically, both fortis and lenis affricates are unaspirated voiceless, but are...

Re: Pronunciations you had to unlearn
I only know "gymnast" with /æ/, though Wikitionary lists /ɘ/ as possible US alternative, but for Croat, it only lists /æ/. JAL I pronounce it as [d͡ʒɪmnɪ̈st]. Likewise I pronounce it [ˈtʃɘ̃ːmnɘsʲtʲ]. With a voiceless affricate? Does that mean that you'd pronounce words like "change&q...

Re: Pronunciations you had to unlearn
I find it a bit odd to use an unreduced vowel in the second syllable of a word like this; /æ/ feels weird to me the same way it would in gymnast (which I pronounce with [ɘ]). But I don't know what vowel would be considered "most correct," or if there is any one in particular. I only know ...

Grammar (cont.) Verbs Verbs in Biskainish are much more agglutinative than modern English verbs, and conjugate for tense, aspect, mood, and voice. Biskainish uses an SVO word order much like English, but uses a VSO word order in interrogative constructions. Mood Prefix Indicative 0- Subjunctive dat...

Biskainish - A Post-Apocalyptic Language
Biskainish is spoken in the Kingdom of Baskain, which is located in southern Florida. This is a conlang for a future timeline based on a post-apocalyptic America that has regressed to feudal levels of technology. Biskainish is currently spoken in the early 4th millenium, and is a descendant of Ameri...
