Random: I didn't realize my one big suitcase weighed as much as it does (5 kg/11 lbs!), and with the weight limits as low as they are, I guess I know which suitcases I'll try to take back with me this winter instead. (Especially since I have a lot of snacks to take to my mother and brother and particularly given the mailing suspension still in place...)

I for one don't think Nazis are going to take over the Zeeb because zompist refuses to ban Nort and xxx on the basis of their largely-private politics. There is no evidence that they are planning a fascist takeover of the board as certain people have indicated will happen if we don't make examples of the few people they can try to stick the "fascist" label on, regardless of how accurate the label is in the first place.

My gripe was more that Zompist knew of them doing/ acting on awful things/ being bigots or communing with them at the least, but since they're really not, there's no reason for me to keep being upset

Don't put words into my mouth, man :-) I'm still trying!
These were your words:

I just said "words", I didn't say whose :)

Once again my car is having problems. Perhaps it's just the sudden cold snap messing with the battery and tire pressure, but it looks like I may need a new battery and refilled tires.

At least the tires are an easy one to fix. Most gas stations also have air pumps (sometimes coin operated, sometimes free if you talk to the clerk), mechanics shops might check and fill them for free. And if worst comes to worst you can get a motorized pump for car tires pretty cheap.

There are any number of jokes here about "hot air", but I'm not going to lower myself to that level.

The tire pressure indicator went away today so perhaps it was just the cold. I checked the tire pressure and none of them appeared dangerously low. Let me just say that winter is my least favorite season, even if technically it's not winter yet.

zompist wrote: Thu Nov 06, 2025 5:26 pm You said "our arguments", so I assumed you were referring to yourself.

Obviously I believe in putting coherent left-wing thought out there, and I hope it helps. It's more likely to help waverers rather than actual right-wingers.
I had an effect as well. What I did was present a vision of leftism largely decoupled from subjective moral considerations. This was important, but mostly for leftists to shore up their convictions and non-leftists who had genuinely been convinced by arguments.
zompist wrote: Thu Nov 06, 2025 5:26 pm You claimed that the board would go back to "Nazism". The ZBB is not a corporation or even some kind of cooperative. It's my personal forum, so your accusation is an attack on my personal integrity, as well as the admin work that keeps the board relatively benign.
Like Raphael said, there was a time when the ZBB was only marginally better than 4chan.

Travis B. wrote: Fri Nov 07, 2025 9:11 am The thing is by equating bradrn's political beliefs with neoliberalism you effectively ascribe political beliefs to him that he may not have simply on the basis of that neoliberals are commonly called 'centrist' and bradrn also describes himself as a centrist. On this basis you could call broad swaths of the population 'neoliberal' simply because they aren't right-wing but aren't consciously left-wing either.
bradrn himself may or may not be a neoliberal, but the centrist politicians he supports almost certainly are. In today's political environment, no one else calls themselves a centrist.

Oddly enough, I actually know the song… but what’s its relevance?

Well, this IS the Random Thread ;) But I have no idea what Man in Space was trying to express this way, either.

I finally got to see an aurora in my lifetime. They're a lot more visible in camera, sadly.
But I could still faintly see them with the naked eye, enough to know that they're there.
