United States Politics Thread 47
Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Here's a post on BlueSky which succinctly explains why annexing Greenland would be a Very Bad Thing. Thoughts?
"But he had reckoned without my narrative powers! With one bound I narrated myself up the wall and into the bathroom, where I transformed him into a freestanding sink unit.
We washed our hands of him, and lived happily ever after."

Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Of course it’s a bloody stupid idea, but I can’t take seriously a person who can’t even spell ‘Pituffik’. (Actually he misspells it twice, in a different way each time.)alice wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 2:05 pm Here's a post on BlueSky which succinctly explains why annexing Greenland would be a Very Bad Thing. Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Ugh...
I'm having severe angst over what Trump's doing to American relations with its allies.
That bastard is more than likely doing Russia's bidding in this mess, and it seems to be working.
I'm not even 100% convinced it's really Americans' fault. Maybe a fraction of Americans, but not as a whole.
I can only hope that when all this is over, we can get relationships on a positive trajectory; even if they don't work exactly like before, they can at least be in the same ballpark, maybe even an improvement somehow.

Trump floats the idea of cancelling the midterm elections.

Though honestly I wouldn't blame Europe for holding a grudge given that Trump is basically threatening war at this point. Even if the next president apologizes profusely, Europeans will have good reason to worry about another Trump getting elected at some point.MysteryMan23 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 18, 2026 3:41 pmI can only hope that when all this is over, we can get relationships on a positive trajectory; even if they don't work exactly like before, they can at least be in the same ballpark, maybe even an improvement somehow.

I have written long posts partly defending leftist theorists, even contemporary ones, from ZBBers: viewtopic.php?p=94517#p94517
So your claim is false unless you're talking about ZBBers rather than leftist theorists. If no ZBBer has agreed with me, my opinions can't have been copied from them.

Even expecting Trump to go full steam ahead with Project 2025, I wasn't expecting his second term to get quite this bad so quickly. I hope voters react to this with sanity and vote out the Republicans.
Re: United States Politics Thread 47
When I saw that I had gotten an automated email telling me that zompist had written a blog post titled "Full Speed to a Crash Landing", my first thought was that he was talking about politics.
Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Certainly there is nothing stopping him from reusing that title for his next blog post. That said, I hear that Trump has cancelled his plans to invade Greenland for now, which means at least a temporary reprieve from WWIII.

So he successfully deflected from Epstein?
Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Aside from the minor detail that the last island the USA bought from Denmark is better known as Epstein Island, it would seem so.rotting bones wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 8:47 amSo he successfully deflected from Epstein?

I liked "Sagwa". Many of the episodes are on YouTube:Man in Space wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 11:39 pmI will always remember Sagwa as the show that they ran on PBS on 9/11. There was a chyron over it that was basically telling parents that they’d be running kids’ programming so there’d be something to keep them occupied.

Re: United States Politics Thread 47
OK, perhaps people who want to make Trump less obsessed with Greenland could start a meme campaign or something that centers on a brief message connecting these things, something like "Never forget what happens on islands the USA gets from Greenland"? Are there any ZBB regulars who are in a position where they might try to make something like that a thing? Perhaps connected with an easily pronounced acronym hashtag like TEGVI, for "Trump Epstein Greenland Virgin Islands".Raphael wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 12:45 amGood catch!alice wrote: ↑Thu Jan 22, 2026 2:46 pmAside from the minor detail that the last island the USA bought from Denmark is better known as Epstein Island, it would seem so.

Perhaps that might at least make it a bit more difficult for that lying psychopathic vaccine-hater to pursue his goal of having as many children as possible die of preventable illnesses on a global scale.jcb wrote: ↑Fri Jan 23, 2026 1:22 am The USA has withdrawn from the WHO (World Health Organization).

Re: United States Politics Thread 47
I just read an article saying that dozens of government lawyers right now are redacting Epstein files for release. So whatever that means, it'll be back in the news.
Now, I suspect the files are a nothingburger. If they incriminated Republicans, Biden would have been happy to say so; if they incriminated Democrats, Trump would have pounced on them. They're mostly damaging because Trump, after a year or two of playing them up, made a huge effort to keep them under wraps-- angering his own base.
Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Given how much many Democrats of the Biden variety have traditionally disliked doing anything that might look a bit like fighting dirty, I wouldn't be so sure of that.
Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Yes, the claim refers to ZBBers, as your previous post from the 4th:rotting bones wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 11:58 amI have written long posts partly defending leftist theorists, even contemporary ones, from ZBBers: viewtopic.php?p=94517#p94517

Alberta wants to separate from Canada and is covertly/subtly asking the US for help.
