I was having this same issue earlier on mobile. I am typing this here on Firefox on a desktop machine.

Same here — not working with Safari on iPhone, but working fine with Firefox on desktop Linux.

I haven't seen this problem yet, whether using Firefox on a Linux PC, Chrome on a Windows PC, or mobile Chrome on an Android phone.

I cannot stay logged in on my phone, only on my desktop machine (haven't checked the laptop yet). I wonder if it's an iPhone-specific issue.

It's the hosting company's fault. They've blocked all UK traffic¹ rather than comply with some UK law²³.

¹ Based on IP adress, so it is bypassable with a VPN if you really want to see it
² The Online Safety Act, I think, but I remember there being controversy over what exactly

That's indeed what the Online Safety act does, but I've heard they'd already got into trouble with regulators here for something else, but I can't be bothered enough to find it.

If I log in and make a post, the cookie stays fresh for a while, I have discovered. Posting something has to be pretty much the first thing I do, though, in order for this to work.

Deleting website data for verduria.org seems (touch wood) to have fixed the issue.
