Re: Name That Language!
Will I ever find a language which isn’t guessed immediately? Perhaps next time I’ll just pick one at random. It can’t possibly be worse than my current method, which is to look through my reference grammars until I find a sufficiently obscure text. Evidently I am terrible at picking sufficiently obscure texts.
EDIT: But now that I think of it, I suppose Mali wasn’t such a good choice in the first place. It’s obscure, but incredibly distinctive. Next time I’ll pick a language which looks exactly like every one of its neighb— no, wait, I tried that with Alto Perené and it didn’t work either. Never mind.

Mali is obscure, but once you've seen it it's pretty much ingrained in your head since it looks very distinctive.

Re: Name That Language!
yeah it's Rawang (the Rvmøl dialect to be precise) - the paper I took this from had this story transcribed both in the orthography and in IPA - I decided to use the IPA transcription, since the orthography is very distinctive, but I knew either you or dendana would guess it immediately.

lol I wrote something about how it might be Rvmøl because I wasn't sure whether the standard had /ts/, but edited it out in case it did

Re: Name That Language!
since all the Munda languages look pretty much the same I decided to skim through Anderson and Zide's "The Munda Languages", opened the pdf halfway through and found a surprisingly long section on Gorum, which not only looked a lot like the example, but also seems to have shifted its palatal stops to /s/ and /z/. is it Gorum?

It's indeed Kuki-Chin and it's indeed tonal, but the orthography doesn't mark the tones.
