From the front page of today's Scottish Sun: Bug test pressure warning.
Self-referential signatures are for people too boring to come up with more interesting alternatives.

No he isn't; he served me at a filling station in Prestonpans the other day.

Idk why my brain did this to me, but when I saw this, I immediately interpreted "posters" to mean 'people posting on a forum' and "new posters have appeared on my street" as some kind of variation on "new kid on the block," instead of, you know, actual posters, like the kind you stick on walls, on an actual street.
Re: Confusing headlines
Maybe one of them is the hapless Bill, who is always appearing on things that say "Bill Posters will be prosecuted".Vijay wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 10:54 pmIdk why my brain did this to me, but when I saw this, I immediately interpreted "posters" to mean 'people posting on a forum' and "new posters have appeared on my street" as some kind of variation on "new kid on the block," instead of, you know, actual posters, like the kind you stick on walls, on an actual street.

Missouri Supreme Court reverses Medicaid expansion decision (AP)
Sounds like expansion is being halted by the court when really it was halted by the governor, the lower court ruled that was constitutional, and the Supreme Court just overturned that ruling.

John Barilaro asked to pass legislation to allow Friendlyjordies defamation defence
(Question: did Barilaro ask someone else, or did they ask Barilaro? And would said legislation allow Friendlyjordies to defend against Barilaro, or vice versa?)

He's also American, so he's always confused because he's not familiar with this British usage.alice wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 4:58 amMaybe one of them is the hapless Bill, who is always appearing on things that say "Bill Posters will be prosecuted".Vijay wrote: ↑Fri Jul 02, 2021 10:54 pmIdk why my brain did this to me, but when I saw this, I immediately interpreted "posters" to mean 'people posting on a forum' and "new posters have appeared on my street" as some kind of variation on "new kid on the block," instead of, you know, actual posters, like the kind you stick on walls, on an actual street.

Re: Confusing headlines
From the Hamburger Morgenpost, a local tabloid where I live:
Großfahndung! Kind (4) im Transporter verschwunden
That is, literally
Major Investigation! Child (4) Disappears in Transporter
My first thought on reading that was "What, they've invented transporters now? Why didn't anyone tell me?" Turns out it was a truck, though (which, in this case, had been partially converted into an RV).

You seem to be very much into SF... I wouldn't even have com up with that interpretation; for me, the archetypical Transporter is this this kind of van.
