Belgian Congo moves from 1930 to 500 BC via magic
Two questions to be asked.
1. What does the future hold for Congo?
2. What are linguistic and cultural implications of such a scenario?
Belgian Congo has approx 17,000 whites living there out of a population of 8-10 mln. The whites are overwhelmingly males mostly colonial administrators, officers and missionaries. If some kind of magical force prevents the Congolese people from killing the whites (they have good reasons to do so), how much French culture survives?
There is also an army force named Force Publique numbering approx 20,000 made of Congolese and French officers
The whites are in a precarious situation. They hold the country but have limited supplies of ammo and modern weapons which is not going to be resupplied from Belgium
The country has some modern tech (,railroads, at least several 100s cars, a similar numberbicycles and at least a few aircraft) but no real education besides missionary schools
Few people bar several dozen scientists and doctors are likely to have higher education other than in the military science and there aren't any textbooks above middle school most likely.

You realize that the genocidal Congo Free State cannot be separated from the time in which it existed, right?

The thing is that you are moving something into the past separate from its original creation (as the Belgian Congo was the direct successor of the Congo Free State, as you must know) in the middle of the time in which it existed, so in essence you are positing a scenario where it magically comes into existence fully-formed in 500 BC.Otto Kretschmer wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 12:24 pmIn 1930 it's no longer Congo Free State. And if magic smoothes relations out, it gives possibility of interrsting cultural interactions

Seriously, this is more absurd than Afrikaner extremists time traveling back to the time of the American Civil War and giving AK-47's to the Confederates...

I don't like the idea of using a horrible genocide for a fun time travel story myself, but I'll note that in some sub-genres of fiction, that kind of magically-coming-into-existence-in-the-past thing isn't that unusual.

personal tastes about the "a locality is transported back in time" genre aside, i think using the belgian congo for this particular one is, to put it lightly, in very poor taste
