On the other hand, I’ve dropped and revised my conlangs numerous times, and it ended up fine.

Leaving a conlang aside and coming back to it is a great way to learn just how bad you are at explaining grammar.
I did it. I made the world's worst book review blog.

I remember a time when I couldn't stand my conlang's rendering nor its philosophy of the world, and I dropped it...
it was more than thirty years ago...

since then it has its own life, it builds itself according to its original pattern, and I follow it as a parallel and exotic reality that has gradually merged with my vision of life...

at worst put all your documentation in a corner and move on...
it will know how to remember you...
Will keep the doc around. Thanks for that!

The Ancient Tongue uses base six with bijectivity. The basic roots for numbers are as follows:
Am - One (Also means “finger)
Ēyad - Two (Notice the similarity between this word and the dual suffix “-eya”)
Ēyadam - Three (A compound of “one” and “two”)
Begwi - Four (Also means “almost”)
P̄en - Five (Also means “hand”)
P̄enam - Six (A compound of “one” and “five”)

I’m fairly concerned about the naturalistic-ness of the other meanings of the words and also whether or not basic words like 3 and 6 would naturalistic-ly be compounds, so all comments are appreciated.

Also, Janko, if you're reading this, number 7-10 will come in due course (Basically, a euphemism for “whenever I feel like it” but a little sooner than that).

Until Anon,

Numbers 7-9 maybe?
Penēyad - Seven
Penēyadam -.Eight
Penbegwi - Nine
10 ?

Those were the numbers I was planning on adding, but, if you add them to your collection, just remember that your taking them from a quited language.

You could make ten "Peneya", i.e. five with a dual inflection.

I don’t think Janko is too picky about such matters.

(Oh, and never say never… I had several languages I thought were more or less ‘quitted’, until it turned out I liked them enough to keep on going anyway.)

Yes, that’s the one, though my scratchpad thread (link in signature) should have a couple of others too.

Hi Verduria,

I’ve just started work on a project involving reconstructing the various languages of a fantasy world from a fantasy series I like based on the place and character names given in the book. Has anyone here attempted a similar project? If so, does anyone have any thoughts or advice on this area of conlanging?

Thanks,

Conlangernoob (I guess 3 months isn’t enough to make me not a noob anymore. *sigh*)

Which series?

(Also, you might want to read up about ‘naming languages’ if you haven’t already. Zompist’s Language Construction Kit has a nice section on them.)

Narnia. My plan is to evolve the Narnian language from a cockney dialect of English, since that's what the inhabitants of Narnia first spoke.

I apologize for asking bradn for some information, although this thread is supposed to be for your work in the further development of your conlang(s).
