2) If the answer is "yes", how would the voice/accent of someone talking with tubes in their noses sound different?
I had a nasogastric tube (running into my nose and down my throat to my stomach) for five days when I was hospitalized last year for an intestinal blockage. I could definitely talk with the tube in, although my wife says that I sounded like I had a stuffy nose, and I didn't talk much, because it was painful for my nose and throat. I hope that this information is helpful!
Yes, it is. Thank you! (Nose-to-stomach? Intriguing. I can see the function of a nose-to-lungs tube, but what is the medical purpose of a nose-to-stomach tube?)
Also: hello, everyone! I have been lurking, but I have not done any posting for quite some time. There are several threads that I planned to post in at one time or another, but they range from one month to several months old, so I suspect that they might all qualify as necroposting at this point.
Welcome back!

I had a bowel obstruction: my intestine was blocked about where my small intestine joined my large intestine, causing pressure as everything backed up above that point. The purpose of the nasogastric tube was to pump out the contents of my stomach and small intestine to relieve the pressure, until the obstruction was able to come loose and pass on its own; fortunately, it did so, and we were able to avoid surgery. (Bowel obstruction: very painful, do not recommend.)

During the four or five days that I had the tube in, I was not able to eat or drink, so I received all of my fluids and nutrients via IV. After it came out, I had an all-liquid meal and a couple of very soft meals, and I was then able to start eating normally again.

One rather unusual side effect: for a period of time, after the tube was removed, I had a strange smell in my nose all of the time; as far as I could tell, the tube had opened up my sinuses to such an extent that I was smelling the back of my own throat. (Once again, do not recommend.) Fortunately, the effect passed after a couple of days.

(On top of the actual medical issue, we were visiting New York City for the day, with plans to drive home that night, when I was rushed to the hospital. My wife had to find a place to stay within walking distance of the hospital, extend parking for our car, and get additional clothes for me and for herself; fortunately, the people that she encountered were understanding and helpful. It all turned out OK; we expected that I would have to spend a week in the hospital, but I was discharged a couple of days early, so we were able to do an unexpected bit of sightseeing before we returned home.)

I don't know what to call today's weather, but in any case, it's not the weather I'd usually expect for late October in this part of the world.

It would make sense for late September.

Out of this what matters are these strings:
  • rhg Czoww 7xbw
  • l9i Bl1kv hqkz
  • rhg
as they occur more than once.

At a glance my first guess is a substitution cipher. However there is too much entropy for this to be a simple one-to-one character replacement of a natlang, because we ought to see more strings that occur more than once were that the case.

In the DCEU, it’s canon that the United States government uses Batman as an asset on occasion. My headcanon is that this was possible because of the USA PATRIOT Act.

I seem to be getting a lot of moths-related stuff when I call up random Wikipedia articles recently.

On a related note, the moths have finally stopped coming into the house when we're trying to read!

I'm actually happy we have moths, biodiversity and all that, but they're incredibly dumb and annoying, also once a huge one got caught in the sink, and I swear the thing was the size of my hand. (Okay, of Donald Trump's hand.)

When I was in France, one of the things I missed from Australia was having a mesh screen over all the windows and doors. We get lots of moths, but only ever outside, because the screens block them. (Flies are wily enough to get through open doors, and presumably through the holes in the meshes too, but it looks like moths aren’t that smart.)

Apparently we got those in the 1950's here in the US, and that decisively contributed to the dying-out of malaria here -- I'm surprised that France still doesn't have those.

My impression is that in Europe, Southern Europe generally has those, but Northern Europe hasn't. So in the case of France, if I'd guess entirely based on stereotypes, I would predict that Marseilles has them, but Calais doesn't.
