Worked without food yesterday. Drank 11 cups of tea instead. Just powered through my allergies, listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl in the background. Still missed my deadline.

I'll find out how bad it was today.

I might really have overworked myself this time. I feel tired and helpless like I did back when I was hurt in 2006.

Interrobangs are in the same category as footnotes.

I also love interrobangs. I use them quite often when chatting on Discord (where, in fact, my profile picture is an interrobang too).

One week into March, and I've done almost none of the writing I wanted to do in March.

Some pretty horrible news today. I got pulled over for speeding and now I face significant (for someone in my precarious position anyway) legal and financial trouble. The cop claimed I was driving 80 MPH (~130 KPH) in a 45 MPH (~70 KPH) zone which makes this a serious misdemeanor. Not only will this criminal conviction get me in jail and open me up to greater danger from the law down the line, it will push my already extreme car insurance bill to levels I can no longer afford.

I took your advice not to commit suicide and look where it got me: facing probable jail time and massive fines, a permanent blemish on my legal record, and massive strain on my already tight budget. I am already living in poverty with barely any luxuries and soon I will have to part with those just to have any chance of survival.

1) that sucks and 2) get a lawyer and contest it in court, it will be cheaper in the end, and if you're fairly lucky you might get off on a technicality.

Deleted some posts. Don't troll malloc or feed his catastrophism.

malloc, do some googling about traffic tickets. You're not going to jail. It probably pays to talk to a lawyer; they can often reduce the charge, especially if (as seems likely from your description) the cop is exaggerating. (Unless you really were going 80? Don't do that.)

It really seems like you lacked some life coaching from your family. Try asking a relative or a co-workers how to handle a speeding ticket.

Except that I looked up the charge listed on my ticket and the official sentence is six months in jail and a thousand dollar fine. Hopefully the lawyer can avoid the most severe sentence, but even the most optimistic outcome will cost me hundreds in the short term and dramatically raise my monthly insurance bill. It will probably exceed the limits of my already tight budget, leaving me unsure how I will even get to work anymore. Certainly it will require me to ditch the last few luxuries in my life and buy only the most critical staples.

Did you google "speeding ticket missouri"? I did, but I'll bet you didn't. Do it and read some of the lawyers' sites.

Lawyers cost money, but given the charges, you will probably save money by getting one.

I get that this is a venting thread, but damn do things taste salty in here.

malloc, court’s no fun place to be, but i’d wager that most of us have been there at some point or another for whatever reason, it's not like we’re dealing with an alien topic. get the lawyer, plead your case, and whatever else happens is outside of your control, no point in trying to change it. just accept what happens.

So the Lord scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there the Lord confused the language of the whole world. Genesis 11: 8-9a (NIV)

My dad used to "fix" speeding tickets all the time. (He was--as y'all may recall--a small-town lawyer in Troy, MO.)

I've had an absolutely miserable start to the year. February I was sick more days than I was well. I'm not entirely out of the woods, but at least I'm doing better. Fingers crossed it holds.
