Viossa Challenge Thread

Post by /ˌnɐˈɾɛndɚduːd/ »

So I just stumbled upon a video about this conlang called Viossa that 'evolved' out of a discord server. basically the idea was that you're not allowed to speak your native language (plus a few obvious ones like english, spanish, etc.), now get creative and let's see what happens. and after 10 years, they had Viossa, a fully functioning conlang that was a kind of mix of all the languages that the people in the server spoke natively, as they'd start by changing up a word from their native language and use that to communicate.

I found this as a really cool concept, so I thought to start a similar thing here. so, rules:

  • you may not speak any natural language unless to say something that does not affect the challenge.
  • your personal conlangs are fine, as long as you don't overuse them. (why not?)
  • if you are understood by and are understanding others, then congrats!

let's see how far we can get this.

I’ve participated in one of these things before. I feel it works best on an instant chat platform like Discord — it’s hard to establish meaning without having an actual, rapid-fire conversation.

well, it seems that rapid-fire conversation borderline never happens here, yet meaning is still carried across. either way, I'd like to still give this a go as it seems like a really cool concept.

I'd start out except that I've got no clue how to start this kind of thing. any ideas?

(I probably should've thought this through a bit more before starting it but ah whell.)
