coup in bolivia wtf
so apparently the military has made an attempt -we'll see yet whether it is successful- in bolivia against the thus-far government of bolivia, led by evo morales's ally luis arce who took power after the end of the military government in 2019. yesterday right-wing army general juan josé zúñiga was deposed after stating that he would not countenance another MAS government (MAS is the coalition that brought evo morales to power and that has ruled for quite a while now, with a small hiatus during bolivia's last coup in 2019). a couple of hours ago irregular troop movements were detected and denounced by president arce, including a regiment taking over a square downtown with snipers etcetera. currently various cameras in downtown la paz are registering the sound of teargas explosions and improvised explosives, but not gunfire. luis arce is currently swearing in new generals for the army while, outside that very building, zuñiga's tanks surround the government palace. things be wack yo.

Re: coup in bolivia wtf
Looks like it.
The article suggests that Arce and Morales are now rivals and may oppose each other in the election next year.
Re: coup in bolivia wtf
thankfully, yes, it failed. it was all exceedingly quick. and yeah, those two are kind of at each other's throats these days. a lot of people are claiming it was a self-directed mock coup, but it seems unlikely.
Re: coup in bolivia wtf
It seems everything's a false flag these days for some people.
Re: coup in bolivia wtf
yeah, and that sort of broad everything is a conspiracy, plans within plans, deception within decepcion, bullshit within bullshit sort of attitude strongly contributes to the thing that gets called post-truth. then again... a lot of what we hear is deception, propaganda and bullshit, and the powerful can and do exert a lot of bullshit power, so to speak, so like... yeah.
apparently, though, this comes a few days after an agreement between bolivia and russia to use bolivian lithium to make batteries. this makes the false flag theory less likely. plus, the coupster said it was a false flag to increase the popularity of arce, so it definitely wasn't a false flag lmao. remember when musk, in the context of bolivian lithium, literally said we'll coup whoever we want?
