script identification thread
script identification thread
honestly i debated posting this in ephemera but i can see this thread being useful (or turned into a game like Name That Language). saw this graffiti in a parking lot and i'm wondering if anyone can tell what (if any) script the writing at the top is in, above the word CHICKEN
Re: script identification thread
Interesting. There is a vague resemblance to Geʽez, but really it looks like no natlang script I’m aware of.Emily wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 11:59 pm honestly i debated posting this in ephemera but i can see this thread being useful (or turned into a game like Name That Language). saw this graffiti in a parking lot and i'm wondering if anyone can tell what (if any) script the writing at the top is in, above the word CHICKEN

Maybe boring Latin (in some weird graffiti font):
Perrx T [9] egc
Sounds like a tag to me.

a kind of Pichação...
Re: script identification thread
I believe the red script is the Latin alphabet.
Re: script identification thread
Dunno its kinda giving conscript vibes to me, although they should be sued for unoriginality. What kind of word is chicken anyways?
Re: script identification thread
hmm. i'm not ruling it out but the rest of the tag (shown below) is in very unambiguous english so i suspect the top text is something else. (sorry for the bad cropping, i couldn't figure out how to reduce the file size of the whole picture on my phone)Creyeditor wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:39 am Maybe boring Latin (in some weird graffiti font):

Or it might be Cyrllic, except for the last letter, which might be an idiosyncratic variant of backwards-N.
As for the other one: is this Serali coming back to haunt us?
Self-referential signatures are for people too boring to come up with more interesting alternatives.

That's what I'd bet on. Most of us are too dang white to understand.Creyeditor wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 1:39 am Maybe boring Latin (in some weird graffiti font):

This site has a helpful bank of tagging styles, though you'll have to click past the ads.
Looking at the examples, I'd note that they look like different handwriting. Also that the first one has some repeated letters, especially #2 and #8, and #1 and #6 and of course #3 and #4. Compare #6 with some of the T's on the above site, and #5 with some of the Y's.

I'm wondering if it might read "Terry the ___"
No idea what the __ would be though.
