In-world taxonomy

Post by masako »

What system - if any - has anyone developed for taxonomic classification within their conworld/conlang?

I am thinking of something like (subject to massive change, of course):

mode of mobility (biped; quadruped; swimming; flying)
>> size in relation to human
>>> skeletal type
>>>> diet (carnivore; herbivore; omnivore
>>>>> ecosystems (forest; desert; tundra, etc)
>>>>>> color / skin type (plumage, scales, hide, etc)
>>>>>>> unique features

Thoughts or ideas?

I haven't done classification at all, but those are some good suggestions.
