Re: Conlang fluency thread
Ho tāhu reo nui tēnei. Rereŋa o reo Māori tē, ha hōrerotia hei Mauŋauha. Hāore te oro /k/, te oro /f/ rānei. Rerehē te wetereo. Hāore mōio au mēmea ha onotonu tui hi tē. Ha iaia tui au hewānei hi tē.
This is my new conlang. It's a dialect of Māori which is spoken in the Auckland islands. It doesn't have the sounds /k/ or /f/. The grammar is different. I don't know if I will continue writing in it. I want to write in it now.

E himitia te reta <k> hei mate hoe!
Kimihia te reta <k> kei mate koe!
Look for the letter <k> so that you don't die!
Now I've written real Māori under the writing of my language. I don't know if the Māori I've written is correct. Here's the writing from before.

Ko tāku reo hangaia hou tēnei. He rerenga o te reo Māori e kōrerotia ana kei Maungahuka. Kāore te oro /k/, te oro /f/ rānei. He rerekē te wetereo. Kāore au i mōhio mehemea ka ono tonu tāku tuhi pēnei. Kei te hiahia au ki te tuhi ki tēnei reo ināianei.
EDIT: I originally wrote nui for "new" the first time, but it should have been ou (hou in Māori). Nui means "big" ...

They gave me a number. They called all of us by the numbers instead of our names. They made us wear them on our shirts.

But we kept taking them off. They were easy to take off. So instead they put them on our bodies.
Bafer vwar îl zam es mi. Ši voiłaes to ťav so fum gu lôd îloz. So ťavaldum i voiłaes.
I still have mine. It doesn't just mean I was number 17. It means I survived.
*Are names alienable?
Edit: This is related to the backstory of my novel. It is not about the Holocaust.

Why did they brand you?
My name means either "person who trumpets minor points of learning" or "maker of words." That fact that it means the latter in Sindarin is a demonstration of the former. Beware.

No, it had nothing to do with the Holocaust -- it's speculation about part of the backstory in my novel. There are similarities, yes, but I wasn't thinking of that when I wrote my post. I had a properly conlang-y response typed up, but I've been told my original post was inappropriate, so perhaps I shouldn't go into any more detail. I've removed the offending text.
