What have you accomplished today?
Re: What have you accomplished today?
Finally updated the pronoun table on Vrkhazhian's main page:
Having a separate set of "negative subject" pronouns that agree with a verb when it's marked with the negative affix seems naturalistic enough, but I don't think it's attested.
Also, I came up with three different "ands": ur= "and (clause-level, additional)", ek= "and (clause-level, sequential)", and si "and (phrase-level)"
ur=túnni ṣā́bnisi kêsi "and (also) I didn't kill him"
ek=túnni ṣā́bnisi kêsi "and (then) I didn't kill him"
lamā́ya si raḫā́ya "arms and legs"
Affirmative subject pronouns must be used with an affirmative-conjugated verb, and negative subject pronouns must be used with a negative-conjugated verb.Having a separate set of "negative subject" pronouns that agree with a verb when it's marked with the negative affix seems naturalistic enough, but I don't think it's attested.

Re: What have you accomplished today?
I really like Vrkhazhian and am always meaning to go look for more of it -- but in the meantime enjoy the snippets as they come up. It's got that philological truthiness to it that I'm a real sucker for.

Re: What have you accomplished today?
That was flippant and cryptic, I apologize. It gives me a very specific impression of reading a modern description of a literary language drawing on an older body of philologically grounded, or 'classical' scholarship. Which tickles my fancy.
Maybe I've been around this block too many times, but these days conlangs are less inherently interesting to me, and how they're presented is more so.

I do value the presentation of the content as much as the content itself. An illustrative table or example sentence can go a long way.fusijui wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 7:36 amThat was flippant and cryptic, I apologize. I mostly try to emulate wikipedia or a grammar textbook of some ancient Mesopotamian language (like Akkadian)

I personally appreciate all this. Your descriptions of Vrkhazhian are awesome.Ahzoh wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 11:00 amI do value the presentation of the content as much as the content itself. I'll second that -- or third that? -- but I'm repeating myself even then.
(I think you get some static with commenters who are coming at the work from a different motivation or methodology of conlanging, I hope you don't let that get you down!)
Re: What have you accomplished today?
I made a whole list of sentencial permutations accounting for interactions between pronouns, nouns, verbs, and clitics:
1. Affirmative sentences without clitics
2. Affirmative sentences with clitic ur= "and"
3. Negative sentences without clitics
4. Negative sentences with clitic ur= "and"
5. Affirmative sentences with interrogative clitic =ki
6. Affirmative sentences with interrogative clitic =ki and clitic ur= "and"
7. Negative sentences with interrogative clitic =ki
8. Negative sentences with interrogative clitic =ki and clitic ur= "and"
Editing all these tables is a pain in the ass
1. Affirmative sentences without clitics

Re: What have you accomplished today?
With some help I made a verb conjugation template using wiki code:

Looks good -- and I never knew about this Linguifex place before, so double thanks!
Re: What have you accomplished today?
I coined two new Msérsca words for the first time in months: pindir to press, apply, anoint, especially with the thumb; and stellar to choose.

I started making a map for my science fantasy human homeworld. Also been working on learning coding and making a website but that's more been the past week and not today. Although I have worked on the website today as well.

Re: What have you accomplished today?
Originally I had it that the ablaut classes in Vrkhazhian verbs would be random and have no clear origin, but I had recently decided to make them dependent on certain stem types: G-stem (ground stem or basic stem) D-Stem (doubled stem or geminate stem), and L-stem (lengthened stem).
Although the L-stem is becoming rare and mostly found only in Sound and Final-Weak verbs, with the stem never being found in Initial-Weak and Middle-Weak verbs (because of elision)
Code: Select all
Realis / Irrealis / Imperative / Role
G-stem: PaRv́Ḫ- / -PRv́Ḫ- / PaRḪ-á- : (Basic)
D-stem: PaRRv́Ḫ- / -PaRRv́Ḫ- / PaRRvḪ-á- : (Pluractional I, Factitive)
L-stem: PāRv́Ḫ- / -PāRv́Ḫ / PāRvḪ-á- : (Pluractional II)

Drafted new verb paradigms for Proto-Hesperic, which still need some fine tuning, though.
