The good: My new Raspberry Pi Pico 2 W's arrived and my little web server worked without any code modifications.

The annoying: The USB CDC console issues reared their ugly head and repeatedly got in the way of me uploading my zeptoIP stack, requiring me to erase it and start over a couple of times.

On the plus side: I had a wisdom tooth extracted today.

On the minus side: it was one of the most anticlimactic extractions in dental history. A few twists of the dental screwdriver, a quick yank with the forceps, and it was all over in less than a minute. I barely had time to settle down and get comfortable.

I'm not sure I understand why that's a minus. Had you been looking forward to spending time in the dentist's chair?

I didn't read the minus part as being entirely serious.

I was expecting it to be a lot longer and more complicated than it actually was. My wife said that wisdom tooth extractions are generally difficult, and I remember reading something about how it's sometimes necessary to saw into the jawbone. But nothing at all notable happened, except that I accidentally dropped the tooth while looking at it afterwards.

Flight back to the US for Christmas was pretty uneventful and the layover through Paris wasn't as bad as I was fearing...

...until I discovered that only one of my two bags didn't make and was still stuck in Paris! They claim they'll deliver it today, but it's really quite unpleasant to have waited for about an hour to see that it wasn't coming out of the baggage claim and then making a complaint at the airline office (which, no knocking on those people, but was horribly understaffed).

Apparently, earlier today there was a major train accident - at least one person died, and lots of injuries - really close to where I live. It's interesting how the same kind of news can hit you differently depending on how close it hits to home.

One thing I find a bit weird is that I heard about the accident from news reports. From what I've heard, it happened close enough to me that I should have heard the sirens of cops, firefighters, and ambulances rushing to the scene, but I didn't.

I was accompanying a family member who is a close friend of the deceased's girlfriend. It was interesting to hear so many people talk about their experiences with him. But I'm still not entirely sure what to feel.

Oh, and one of the things I ate at the buffet was a kind of scone-like thingy, so I hope that I'm still sober.

I have never really been close to even the people I've been the closest to, and so I understand where it is that you come from. it is good to mourn those who have passed, for then we will not forget who they were and what they did for those around them, but at the end of the day, death is a thing for us all. at a point, you have to let them pass. (I'm not saying this is advise strictly for you, Raphael, but for anyone it might reach.)

I'm confused – scones¹ don't typically contain alcohol, or are had with alcohol. How would they make you not sober?

If I tried to map the non-GOAT pronunciation of scones to my own phones it would come out as [skãːnts], which simply does not seem right.
