Oh, the Roman Empire seems to have had mostly consistent regional borders. The Holy Roman Empire, on the other hand...

Re: Random Thread
Well, the Romans changed the administrative divisions in their empire several times. But the general idea which parts of the empires were Italia, Gallia, Hispania and the like, did not change. After all, they could not change mountain ranges at all and the courses of major rivers not much.
Re: Random Thread
And what’s interesting is how those stable geographic boundaries ended up shaping cultural identities long after the empire fell. Places like Gaul and Hispania eventually morphed into France and Spain, but the regional divisions still echo Roman lines. Even modern infrastructure and trade routes often follow the same paths Roman engineers laid outWeepingElf wrote: ↑Sun Apr 20, 2025 7:26 amWell, the Romans changed the administrative divisions in their empire several times. That must have been scary. I've tried finding out what the cause was, but it looks like they still haven't figured it out.Raphael wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 8:20 am What on Earth is happening in Spain and Portugal?

I only remember reading somewhere that this is the publication where Marx stopped being a radical liberal and became "Marxist" for the first time.

OK, people, I'm about to try to make sense of my taxes. Wish me luck.
Re: Random Thread
Update: I've now gone through the forms and written down all the parts I don't understand. My next planned step is that, tomorrow morning, I'll try to call the tax office to ask them about the things I've written down.

another one trying to attack Voynich...
Re: Random Thread
Thank you! The forms are online, though, so the risk of paper cuts is reduced. I'm still using some printouts and a note-taking piece of paper, though.
Re: Random Thread
Next update: the tax office is updating their software and doesn't take any calls today. I'll have to try again on Monday.

On a lighter note, I just discovered this at Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lists_of_lists
List of lists of lists
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"List of lists" redirects here. For a non-comprehensive list of Wikipedia lists, see Wikipedia:Contents/Lists. For all lists on Wikipedia, see Category:Lists. "LoLoL" redirects here. For the Chilean town, see Lolol. For the internet slang, see LOL.
This is a dynamic list and may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness. You can help by adding missing items with reliable sources.
This list of lists of lists is a list of articles that are lists of other list articles. Each of the pages linked here is an index to multiple lists on a topic.

Yay, tax declarations. At least you only had one to wrangle... I had four this year, and it was "fun".

Ouch! Commiserations. OK, technically I did two different taxes - income and turnover - but they're handled by the same agency, and I did them through the same online interface, so it wasn't that different from doing one tax.doctor shark wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 8:15 am
