My cat will, but he won't bring the toy back. Instead he stares at me, waiting for me to come over and pick it up and throw it again.
If he doesn't actually fetch the toy, you can't call it playing fetch. It's just playing, isn't it?
When I was a kid, we had a cat that liked playing fetch. We used to throw little balls of scrunched up aluminium for her to bring back. As she got older, she got tired of that game, but she continued collecting shiny things. My mother lost an emerald ring. It was the only piece of jewellery of any value that she had. Then she found it years later in our cat's collection of shiny things.

this year has been v hard. japan's border is closed because of corona so i can't go back. like the edo period. but my boyfriend is still over there. we can't get married in jp. it's fckn tough.
I still haven't got fully used to that phrase. To a person of my generation, it still looks like a noticeable anglicism.
(In my youth we would have said "Schön, dass du wieder da bist" or something like that, and that's, of course, still an option.)
Now I'm really curious - it's clearly some continental West Germanic speech variety, but which one?

'That looks like Swiss German.'
Welche westgermanische Sprache ist das?
What West Germanic language is that?
That depends on what is a language and what is a dialect - and anyone who's been on this forum for long enough should know that ultimately, that's always an arbitrary decision.

Then I had meant what language or dialect is that?
